Activated Carbon Powder (ACP)

In general, Activated Carbon Powder (ACP) is used in an adsorbent mixture with bleaching earth in the bleaching process for edible non edible oils such as used oil, west oil, transformer oil, wax oil, palm oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil etc. The use of ACP in the adsorbent mixture is beneficial when the oils contain high contents of natural pigments such as carotenoids, chlorophylls and xanthophylls.

ACTIVATED CARBONS FOR EDIBLE OIL AND NON EDIBLE

 

In general, Activated Carbon Powder (ACP) is used in an adsorbent mixture with bleaching earth in the bleaching process for edible non edible oils such as used oil, west oil, transformer oil, wax oil, palm oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil etc. The use of ACP in the adsorbent mixture is beneficial when the oils contain high contents of natural pigments such as carotenoids, chlorophylls and xanthophyll’s.

 

Especially in coconut oil refining, the use of ACP is inevitable when polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) must be removed when the deodorizer is not capable of reducing the PAH content to below acceptable limits:

  • Total PAH content: maximum 25 ppb
  • Heavy PAH content: maximum 5 ppb (often measured via BaP content multiplied by factor 5 to estimate the heavy PAH content)

 

National authorities may require maximum removal of unwanted organic contaminants in fish oil such as PAH, dioxins and PCB’s. Also here ACP can play an important role.
